On the rocks photo project

Super fun and simple project coming your way...gather the kiddos, or Rover, or whoever...well bundle up first cause it's COLD out :(  Making some hot cocoa sounds good just about now doesn't it? One of my favorite things about winter :)

Step 1) Head outside, or to Hobby Lobby or your friends yard or wherever you can find rocks. You may want to make her one too so she doesn't think your crazy. Plus, then you can show her your crafty green genius.

Step 2) Here are the rest of the...

Step 3) Cut your wire. How long depends of coarse on how many times you want to wrap the wire around the rock and how tall you want the wire to come up. I cut mine to about two feet each.

Step 4) Spray paint your rocks if desired you could go for the all natural look. It took mine more time to dry then most projects I have done with spray paint. It also takes several coats of spray paint. I also think using stencils could be fun so be creative, it doesn't have to be a solid color. You also have the option of spray painting your wire, which I did.

Step 5) When the spray paints dry, wrap wire around your rock. I did these two ways shown below. Again be creative, there's no one way to do this.

Step 6) Make a little loop at the top of your wire for your picture to sit in. I just used my fingers to do this. The one below I did no problem the first time the other two I had to play with a little to get just right.

Step 7) Find pictures you want to display in your new rock photo holders. I grabbed several pictures to play around with to see what I liked. I really need to get some more pictures printed ASAP. Although I love my sis-in-law and I love this pic I took of her I don't really want it on my dining room table. It was fun to play around displaying different pictures using one rock photo holder to using all three for one photo. As well as layering them on top of a wood round and place mat. Enjoy!  Let me know how yours turned out!

  1. Love this! We have plenty of rocks around our neibourhood, so I might just have to give this a try. I think they'd make great place card holders as well. The colours that you used are fantastic too!

  3. Thanks Andrea! I would love to see how yours turn out :) they would make cute place holders, didn't think about that. I was going to do grey and yellow on of my fav color combos but I wanted it to pop more since rocks are already kinda grey.
Katie, thanks! I'll have to send you some so you can try it, shipping will be a beast...
