Dish & Serve - Raisin Pie & giveaway

The lovely Jane from Adventures in Dinner is here today to Dish & Serve. I launched Dish & Serve on her blog to see the original post and to see why I started Dish & Serve check out this link.

I'm beyond happy to be guesting today at DeAnn's amazing blog and to be a part of 'Dish and Serve'.
DeAnn is so inspiring and to be honest I struggled to decide what to do.
I finally decided after WAY too long (thanks for being patient DeAnn) to pull out a recipe of my Grandma Kelly's for Raisin Pie.
This recipe is really the height of old fashioned pies. You just don't see them anymore and to be honest I've only seen this version in my area of Canada (Ottawa Valley).
If any of you have seen it elsewhere I'd love to know.

My neighbour (across the street) lost his wife a year ago very abruptly and he had a large group of relatives over recently to plant a tree in the backyard in her honour.
A beautiful Magnolia as gracious as Vivian was.
Not really knowing what to say I offered my support through food.

Pour boiling water over 1 1/2 cups of raisins.
Let stand until cool and drain, saving the water.

Get your pie crust ready or use prepared.
In a bowl combine; 3/4 cup sugar, 2 T. flour and the zest of a lemon (yes, in my bowl is a LOT more-I made three).
Add in your raisins with the juice of one lemon and 1/2 cup of your raisin water.
Place in 9 inch pie crust.
Dot with butter and top with pastry.
Poke with a knife to release the steam.
Bake (on a tray unless you'd like to clean your oven) at 350 for 40 minutes or until the bottom is browned.
Share.

If you would like to do a Dish & Serve post just let me know! I would love for you to do one :) Hint, hint, nudge, nudge.

Dish & Serve

Here it is 5pm and I just relized that Jane from Adventures in Dinner posted a guest post I did for her blog. But seeing as I have been sick for a few days and finally feel able to sit up, I hope you all will excuse me.

I  am SUPER stoked to launch this on her blog she is my only blogger friend with a pretty much dedicated food blog. So it seems apprpriate to launch Dish & Serve there.

If you would like to do a Dish & Serve post I would love it! Blogger or non-blogger it doesn't matter!
Head over to Jane's blog to see the full post.

Next week I have my first guest post from these lovly sisters at Bake Me Something Good....EEK...I am so excited.  They were super sweet espicially since I had never talked to them until I asked them to do a guest post for Dish and Serve. You really think so? Aww... shucks...

 Dunt, dunt, dun...

Cara at This little light has awarded me with The Versatile Blogger award. This first time I heard from Cara was a few days ago when she left one of the sweetest comments ever on my blog. I would be lying if I said I don't get a little discouraged now and again with trying to get my blog out into the blogosphere. Her comments have really given me a boost. I can't thank her enough. Cara is a unique voice a funny and zany one at that. Check her out...This Little Light

As per the official rules I am to tell you 7 random things about me whiter you like it or not...I want to hear something about you too, at least one random thing...come..on!

1) I can never collect enough buttons, ribbon and trim NEVER. (Come back on Monday to see my guest post)
2) I love stuff but hate clutter...how does that work?
3) Breakfast is my favorite meal.
4) I used to get asked what country I was from because I used to slur words together and apparently  that made me sound foreign. For example I used to say my name so fast and slurred that when introduced to new people they would say " your names Yin?"  Said more slowly and enunciated you would hear DeAnn. My husband is the one that pointed this out to me and now I say my name so normal human ears can hear it
5) I totally love music like the Lower Lights...not sure what genre it is, kinda folksy but dang good! Take a listen...really, you won't regret it. I dedicate this to you Cara ;)

6) I would want a bigger house only so I could put more pictures up on the walls.
7) I hate when I can't articulate things the way I want to...happens entirely to often.

VBA Rules state the following:
1. Thank the person who gave you this award. That’s common courtesy.
2. Include a link to their blog. That’s also common courtesy.
3. Next, select 15 blogs that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly. (15  is a bit much for any one person, so I have picked 7.)
4. Nominate those bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award
5. Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself.
And now, in no particular order or preference are the blogs I nominate:
Just click on their headers to go to their blogs...
